Neighbors walked the retention pond area to get an overview of the KPVA parcel's condition, then met indoors to discuss next steps. A slide presentation suggested pond circumstances (56 MB) to consider.
Early recommendations are to cut and dab the invasive honeysuckles while sap flow still carries the glyphosate downward to kill roots. Once the plants start to leaf out, the flow goes upward to deliver nutrients to the leaves and the stumped plants sprout suckers. A delay would postpone honeysuckle removal likely until fall.
The KPVillas group will follow the removal techniques recommended by the Natural Resource Stewards from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Parks & Recreation Division, Stewardship Unit. See https://www.kpvillas.org/post/warren-dunes-stewardship.
In addition to timely removal of the invasive honeysuckle, the group will continue to seek input on recommendations for replacement and maintenance of plants. Regarding the spillover, KPVillas awaits decisions from the County after it receives an engineering study due by the end of June 2023.
If you missed the announced meeting, you are still welcome to participate in the group dialogue. Contact Chuck Bueter for follow up.
